We all know by now that the milk tea boom doesn’t seem like it’s dying down anytime soon, what with new shops popping up left and right (not that we’re complaining). Milk tea’s so big in Metro Manila that it takes up a huge chunk of the daily lives of third-party food delivery riders.

But if you live or work in Makati City, we suggest you put the delivery app down and just take a stroll with us. The CBD’s blessed with lots of milk tea shops if you’re craving that sweet, life-giving nectar.

Like our previous milk tea list in BGC, we’re featuring more under-the-radar milk tea shops and less of big franchises! Craving? Check out our roundup below!

Macao Imperial Tea is one of the fastest growing milk tea shops here in the country, and their Cream Cheese line of drinks is one of the main reasons why.

The rich, creamy, and slightly salty flavor gives a whole new savory dimension of taste to milk tea. It’s one of the most decadent drinks you can sip — perfect for a payday blowout for yourself.

Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati, Metro Manila

This franchise from Taiwan is one of the most underrated joints in the Metro. Founded in 1994, FifTea answers the question what’s better than ice cream and milk tea?: A combination of both!

Their line of ice cream milk teas are their bestsellers. If you want to forego the ice cream and stick to just milk tea, you can’t go wrong with the Boba Assam and Boba Jasmine versions.

YiFang Taiwan Fruit Tea

Ground Floor, Easton Place, 118 Valero Corner V. A. Rufino Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City

Unit G4, Prince Plaza II Condominium, Legazpi Corner Dela Rosa Street, Legaspi Village, Makati City

Another franchise from Taiwan, YiFang Taiwan Fruit Tea is one of the most popular shops in the country and it’s not hard to see why. Their fruit teas made of real fruit! They’re refreshing and perfect for a hot, humid afternoon.

Don’t let the name fool you, though. They serve more than just fruit tea. Order from a wide array of milk teas and specialty drinks, too. One of the reasons for their long lines is their sweet and toasty Brown Sugar Pearl Tea Latte.

Tiger Sugar

When you have a die-hard following that’s willing to wait an hour for milk tea, you know you’re doing something right. And that’s exactly what Tiger Sugar has done with their line of drinks.

Tiger Sugar is practically synonymous with brown sugar milk tea. One sip of their Brown Sugar Boba Milk with Cream Mousse — imagine milk with brown sugar syrup over chewy boba, with a thick layer of cream mousse on top — and you’ll begin to understand the long queues.

Unlike other shops, this one tops and coats the bottom of their drinks with cream, making the texture thicker and richer, and already making your milk tea experience a little extra.

And speaking of extra, make sure you try the Okinawa milk tea. It’s their bestseller, and it’s sweetened with roasted brown sugar instead of just regular syrup. They also have other specialty flavors that you won’t find in other shops such as Halo-Halo Milk Tea, Egg Pudding Milk Tea, and more!

Cha Tuk Chak

Craving a different kind of milk tea? Whereas other shops offer more Taiwan-style milk tea, Cha Tuk Chak sells authentic Thai-style tea: a delicious concoction of tea, condensed milk, and ice.

Their bestseller is the classic Thai milk tea Cha Yen. The bright orange drink will look glorious on your Instagram feed, and the taste? It’s not too sweet but it’s velvety smooth and silky without sacrificing that strong brewed tea flavor. One sip and your taste buds will come begging for more.

FRNK Milk Bar also comes with long snaking lines and frnkly (see what we did there?), it’s easy to understand why.

The highly ‘grammable brand boasts of healthier alternatives to your favorite drinks with sinkers. They offer options to customize your drink such as dairy and non-dairy options, vegan options, and more. They even offer drinks with a low-calorie count for guilt-free sipping!

FRNK Milk Bar also uses premium ingredients, even sourcing teas directly from Kyoto, Japan.

If it’s your first time, please try the Dirty Maccha. It’s hand-whisked Uji Maccha with blue tea mochi and swirled with bittersweet dark chocolate. It sounds sinful, but it goes down delightfully and it’s not at all cloying. It also packs quite a punch (thanks to the matcha) and will definitely wake your senses up. You might even see sounds!

If you prefer your matcha on the sweet side, try the Ichigo. It’s Uji Maccha with strawberry jam, basil drops, and blue tea pearls.

Speaking of strawberries, another bestseller is the Mochi Beri Chizu. It’s made of iced shaken dark sugar, homemade strawberry jam, cheese cap, and blue tea mochi mixed in with fresh milk, it’s like your favorite strawberry cheesecake in drink form. The Tall size also clocks in at just 303 calories!

And there you have it! These are just some of the must-try and must-sip milk teas around Makati. Which one will you be trying next?
