5 Ways To Bring Summer Into Your Condo

You don't have to travel out of town to get a taste of summer. By Katherine Lopez-Hernandez

You know that summer is here when days are getting longer and hotter. While trips to the beach are common during this time, you don’t always have to go out of town in order to enjoy the season. After all, summer is all about relaxing, whether you’re under the sun or not. Here are tips on how to make your condo ready for summer. (You can actually keep your condo unit this way all year long if you like.)

1. Liven up your home with indoor plants.

Nothing else can scream “summer” than outdoor elements like plants making their way into your own condo. Touches of green are also cool and refreshing to the eye. What better way to add these than by decorating with indoor plants. Head to Cedarhills Garden Center along Mo. Ignacia Avenue in Quezon City and pick which potted beauty suits your home best. You can also try the plant and gardening shops along Katipunan Avenue Extension in White Plains, Quezon City for more options.

2. Let the sunshine in.

Ditch the heavy curtains and replace them with lighter window treatments, such as sheer curtains, blinds, or roman shades. These can filter light just fine without making your unit dark and lifeless. You can get various window treatments at Fabric Life by Larry’s along Aurora Blvd. cor. Broadway St., New Manila, Quezon City.

3. Add summer cheer through bright or pastel colors.

Happy hues like yellow, orange, and green make your home look lively and festive. All these are important in achieving that #SummerFeel. If you don’t have the time or resources to repaint, you can inject these colors through home accessories and accent pieces that you will decorate your condo unit with. You can dress up your sofa with colorful throw pillows or your dining table with a patterned table runner. Get these from The Olive Tree or The Nifty Decorator.

4. Inject natural texture.

If you want a summer, tropical feel, add texture by way of a sisal rug, grasscloth wallpaper, or woven baskets. You can also decorate using accessories made of rattan or bamboo. You can get these accessories at Dapitan Arcade at Dapitan cor. Kanlaon Sts., Sta. Mesa Heights, Quezon City or Grassroots in Greenbelt 5, Makati City.

5. Whip up a summer chill-out session in your condo.

Gather your friends and sip a refreshing glass of mojito by your condo’s pool. Go sunbathing and get that covetable tan (just don’t forget to wear sunscreen). You can also use your condo’s common area to throw a summer gathering, may it be a simple barbecue afternoon or a luau-themed party to nail that tropical feel.
