If you find yourself looking south of Metro Manila for the next center of commerce, head over to Lipa

Lipa, Batangas is some 78 kilometers south of Metro Manila. With a population of just over 330,000 and a land area of nearly 21,000 hectares, Lipa is far from being an overcrowded metropolis, yet it’s developed enough to be a thriving and bustling center of commerce and economic activity in the province.

Of lomi and shifting landscapes

Once dotted with agricultural land, Lipa’s landscape through the years has gradually shifted to more commercial use. It is fast becoming highly urbanized as its proximity to the National Capital Region makes it a strategic location for various industries.

As a key city of Batangas, Lipa also serves as a major transportation hub for the province and other nearby urban areas, a convenient stopover for city travelers making their way to the province’s famed beaches and other popular tourist destinations. The city itself has its own tourist spots, among them the centuries-old Lipa Cathedral and Casa De Segunda, a heritage house museum, and is known as the birthplace of lomi, the popular noodle dish. It is also home to various reputable educational institutions such as De La Salle Lipa, University of Batangas, New Era University, STI College, and AMA Computer College. All signs point to the continued development of Lipa as a major urban area.
